Atop the hill in the woods next to the Goshen Farmhouse lie the charred remains of what was once the Hillcrest Manor Restaurant. Among these ruins in 1992 the bodies of at least three women who were stabbed to death by serial killer Nathaniel White were discovered by police. We’re not sure exactly when the restaurant burned, but we were told that it had already when White dumped the bodies there.

We entered the deteriorating driveway to the restaurant and dodged many deep potholes along the seemingly never ending winding path. We approached what appeared to be the remains of a parking lot under piles and piles of burned restaurant debris and garbage. This made it obvious that this land is also the dumping grounds for furniture, busted television sets, neon shag carpeting, old trailers, and signs from businesses that have long since gone under. With all of the junk lying around, it was easy to see why Nathaniel White chose this area to leave the victims’ bodies. It was very chilling to think about as well as what we might stumble upon.

Beyond the heaping piles of junk and twisted old trees we saw it–the remains of the burned restaurant. It was simply a foundation, a fireplace, a chimney, some broken tile floors with holes in them, and assorted rusted restaurant appliances. However, some of what was left of the restaurant appeared to be underground sheltered by rotting moss covered wood that was full of holes and falling down. It would have been very dangerous to attempt to sneak beneath it.

While walking around and peering down into the foundation, we discovered something that made our skin crawl–bones! Upon looking closer at the spine, ribs, pelvis, and leg bones, we surmised that they were probably bones of a deer or another animal that was hunted. Even if they were animal bones, it was a scary sight to see in a place with such a history nonetheless.
