2012 UPDATE
The Evil Tree is still lying on its side, but doesn’t appear to have suffered from anymore destruction than that. A deeper walk into the woods to the tiny waterfall brought us to discover that the stone fireplace/furnace has been destroyed.

Back when I was in high school, my friends and I used to go back and hang out at what we called “The Evil Tree”, which was an extremely weird and creepy rendition of a twisted tree made completely of metal. Not much is known about it, but I was told that the land that it’s on was once owned by an artist, or possibly even more than one artist who made the tree.

I’m a tad bit familiar with the land so while I was there photographing the tree, I decided to stroll around our once popular hangout spot. We used to take a more discreet path into the woods to a small waterfall and furnace and I hadn’t previously realized how close that was to the tree. I heard rushing water, so I walked through the brush past where I was told an old, abandoned barn once stood and sure enough, there it was. It’s definitely a pretty little spot.
