ABOUT THIS SITE ![]() Welcome to The Unquiet Tomb, a site dedicated to abandoned locations, weirdness, and strange beauty of New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, and beyond. For a long time, I had planned to someday have a site that would concentrate only on urban tales, urban exploration, and roadside attractions so I could display the pictures I’ve taken over the years proudly and allow a few of my fellow exploring buddies who help me with this site to do the same. I’ve had this desire ever since I was involved with the now defunct Midnight Society (RIP), where I made many friends who encouraged me to start a site of my own after the “fall” of MS. After a lot of planning and on and off and procrastination, I finally broke down and got a domain and launched the site on May 14, 2003. The site ran strong for about two years, but then life happened and I just didn’t have the time to update it anymore. The Unquiet Tomb flickered on and off of the web for the next few years, but now things have changed for the better and we’re back for good. This site is mainly made up of my own works, but often times other Unquiet Tomb staff members will contribute their own photos or information to the site. These are close friends of mine who I often explore with and they help out an awful lot around here in many ways. When the site first hit the web, my friend 5witchbhakk helped me run it, so you’ll still see some of his contributions on the site. I’ve lost touch with him over the past couple of years, so 5witch, please contact me if you’re reading this! Before anyone even asks, this site doesn’t exist to compete with other sites that have a similar aim. In fact, we would consider the owners of many of these sites our friends and have even gone out on excursions with them. The Unquiet Tomb is merely a place to showcase our photographs, even though I’m FAR from being a professional photographer. I rely on a Canon Rebel XSi digital SLR and will often still use my handy little Canon Powershot point-and-shoot. The purpose of showcasing these photographs, no matter how good or bad, is to show you what locations look like and nothing more. If you would like to critique photographs, feel free to visit a few of our friends’ exploration photography sites. While we enjoy taking pictures, this site is mainly about the exploration. Well, we hope you appreciate the beauty of the lost as much as we do. Maybe you already do and that’s why you’re here. Happy travels! –Ember |
ABOUT MEMy name is Ember and this is my site. I’ve been into the exploration hobby for more than ten years now, having always lived in the backwoods of New Jersey. I run a paint business during the week, and explore as much as I can possibly cram into a weekend. I can be found in various exploration communities where I go by my “real” name, so you may already know me. Since I was a little girl, I’ve always been drawn to cemeteries. I’ve been intrigued by the one across the street from where I grew up and have dubbed it “my” cemetery since the age of five years. As I grew older, my interest in exploring cemeteries expanded into a greater interest in the abandoned, forgotten, hauntingly beautiful, mysterious and simply unknown, as well as the supernatural. For me, the need to explore these places and things and share their stories is an undying one. |
